NEWS

May 28th, 2007.
Been busy with refinishing in the shop. Today I am continuing work on an organ bench for Paul Cheatly, and various other smaller piano benches. Heintzman has been stripped and is waiting for veneer repairs at the moment. Stienway is waiting for me in the corner back there, wimpering and crying itself to sleep at night, so I had better finish the Heintzman soon. The Square grand table is taking longer than I thought, very time consuming to wet sand the ornate carvings on the legs; but other than that seems to be going quite well. Hope the table will be done soon becuase it is taking up too much space. Have been doing quite a lot of tunings and repairs, lots of travelling too. Last week I was in Brockville tuning, amoung other "countryish" places. This week I have Wednesday morning booked with tunings and a square grand piano repair in the afternoon, Friday afternoon and evening is booked. The weekend is open for work if anybody needs me on the weekend. Piano teachers that book a tuning this weekend will recieve 25% of thier tuning!!

MAy 5th, 2007.
I currently have 3 Heintzman's, 1 Steinway, and 2 other small little apartment size pianos in my shop waiting to be worked on. The finish is now on the square grand table and it looks incredible, can't wait to get that up on the site so everyone can see. I will also be doing some kiosk type cabinets for a local sports memorbilia business next week. And of course I am still doing my daily tunings and such on top of that. So...LOTS of stuff going on and I will have 4 really nice instruments for sale within the next 2 months or so. Will be scheduling a trip to Montreal for tuning pianos within the next month, so if any of my clients down there want me to drop by than just let me know, thanks! P.S. Still have big plans for the site, however I haven't had the time to do all the updates yet, soon though. Talk soon! Summer is here!!

April 12th, 2007.
I still haven't found the time to put all the updates on this site that I wanted too. Need to get the buying prices up for the used pianos section cause many people have been inquiring about me buying thier instruments...and well basically there are a hundred things I want to change with this site, but haven't got around to doing so. Seriously, they will be done by the end of next week for sure. I have cleaned my shop up and I am ready for another season of refinishing. Started taking antique furntiture restoration contracts from various funrniture stores in Westboro village, repairs and refinishing, that sort of thing. There will be lots of refinishing pictures up soon! Square grand table comming along nicely, will have pictures of that soon as well ;) Doing a lot of tuning and repairs. Next week I will be in Brockville for an entire day of tuning, so if anybody out there wants me to pay a visit, let me know. Talk soon...keep those fingers playing!

March 28th, 2007.
Into purchasing pianos and furniture at the moment for summer refinishing projects. I will be making huge updates to this site tomorrow, included in these updates will be list prices for your used pianos. I am purchasing instruments for re-sale at this time. I offer cash for your used piano and professional removal of the instrument within 2 days; my offers are fair. As far as cool projects go, I just bought an 86 x 46 150 year old solid cherry table last night for $500. This table is going to recieve the works as far as refinishing goes and it will be up on the site very soon. Quite a spectacular piece of furniture for the enthusiast. Talk soon.

Congrats to Sue McClellan of Ottawa who was lucky enough to snap up my Winkelmann Grand. I am a little confused as to why more people didn't come to look at this intrument, especially since I was practically giving it away ! The weight of the keyboard was a little off for the first potential buyer, after that I made adjustments to this and now it is playing very well and the weight is just right. I still have my little piano for sale and I hope someone buys that soon because that is super duper deal as well. 5 bookings so far this week which isnt bad, however still more times available so don't be shy, call and book me.

March 1st, 2007.
Yeah, I have made pretty cool slideshows in the last couple days. Two more are almost done but I just haven't posted them yet cause they need a little more work. One of the slide shows is a little introduction to myself, just in case you are curious. Give me a call, I am fairly flexible at the moment, thank you, bye for now.

Febuary 18th, 2007.
Due to the recent surge in people calling for advise on buying pianos, and wanting information on "wet"/"gray market" pianos, I have updated the information section of this website with a thorough essay on the properties of wood, its behaviors, and its relavence to understanding wet pianos. Check it out, instead of yacking on the phone for an hour I will just be sending people to this FAQ. Talk soon.

Febuary 17, 2007.
Winkelmann is for sale. Please buy this piano, I want it gone ASAP!! Check it out folks, UsedOttawa.com My schedule is pretty open next week for tunings, give me a shout. Talk soon.

Febuary 14, 2007. The day of love.
I have a small apartment sized piano that has been completely refinished with new, key tops, dampers, re-shaped hammers and a brand new leather adjustable bench for $1500 on UsedOttawa.com. Go to that link to view it. It is priced to sell fast as I am really sick of staring at it in my living room. Countless hours and a lot of money went into this instrument. It was an experimental piano that I used in my refinishing training, and as a result, it got a lot of new parts over the years as I just kept adding to it. No more space, it needs to go, it would be so perfect for a family that has young children just getting started in piano. The instrument is pleasing esthetically and it sounds good also. Winkelmann will be up for sale in a couple days also, and I will probably put that on UsedOttawa.com as well. The Winkelmann has been a little bit of a disapointment, it does not sounds that great. And so, I have a 6"3' grand sitting in my living room that has been completely refinished in ebony black, has new bushings, hammers, pin block, tuning pins, strings, felts, fake ivory keytops...too much stuff to list, this piano has had the works. It is always a gamble when you rebuild an intrument that you have never heard before (I will never do that again!! My wallet is bleeding after that one!!), and I am basically losing a LOT of money on this one. About $2000 in parts alone have gone into this piano, not to mention the hours and hours and hours and hours I spent rebuilding it. I need this thing out of my life ASAP! The ideal buyer is someone who is NOT picky about tone. I need to find someone who wants a piece of furniture before a piano, if thats you... than lets make a deal. I really don't want much for it...seriously...make me an offer. You can see the piano up close in my "showroom" section. Thanks, talk soon.

January 31st, 2007
Hello again. Tomorrow I will be tuning pianos in Brockville. Friday, Saturday and Sunday I will be in Montreal - Verdun to be more specific - tuning pianos. If there is anybody in these areas that needs work done, give me a shout 613-795-0003 and we can set something up. Winkelmann and small apt size refinishing experiment are VERY near completion. If you are lookng for a nice 6'3" grand at a great price than let me know. I will be back in Ottawa on Sunday and will resume local work on Monday. If I do not answere the phone whilst I am away, than please leave a message, I will get back to you shortly. Working on designing a MySpace page for Strike Point which might be cool. Thanks and talk soon.

January 18th, 2007
Well, it's been a very long time since this site has been updated. In the next few weeks I will be posting new things in the showroom and changing some of the written information on here. I also have to work more at getting this site to show up on searches. I am sort of limiting my services to the Ottawa region now because I am getting tired of travelling. We have another freash start to the year and I wish all the fingers learning how to play a very good new year! Please take care of your instruments and call when your piano needs servicing. Thanks and talk to you soon.

October 26th, 2006
Hey all, due to a family emergency I will be out of town untill Monday October 30th, so you may not be able to reach me untill then. If you get the answereing machine than just leave a message and we will take care of you when I get back to Ottawa; I like messages, they make me feel loved. Very busy around this time of year, and as Christmas approaches it is getting more and more busy so please call ahead of time to book your tuning to make sure you get a spot. There has been quite a few things getting refinished in the shop, lots of furniture and also a whole bunch of shelving units and cash register desks for a kiosk that will be going up in the Brockville Mall. So yeah, been a while since I updated this thing but I just wanted to let you know that I will be unreachable for a couple days. TTYS!

September 26th, 2006
Last week was super busy and I am taking a couple days off just recover from that; 9 straight full days of tuning. I have a few repairs to work on in the shop plus a bench to refinish so I will just be doing that in the next couple of days. I will start booking for the next round of tuning's starting this Friday and on into next week. My trip to Montreal was a success, tuned a few pianos and checked up on one of Strike Point's rebuild projects, which is holding up just fine under the hands of the great Roland Graham! Next week I will likely be spending two days in Brockville next week servicing pianos down there. If you live in Brockville and would like your pianos serviced, please call promptly to book your appointment. Showroom has gotten quite skimpy due to the fact that most of everything in there has sold over the last few months. There will be another small apartment size piano being added in there at the end of the week. If you are looking for a great deal on a small piano than this would be a great oportunity. You will see! Later.

September 12th, 2006
Hey, finishing up two pianos in shop this week as well as some actions to work on and a music desk. For next week, Monday is still available, some slots on Tuesday Wednesday, Thursday morning open, Friday morning is open, Saturday all day, Sunday all day is also open. If nothing gets booked for Saturday, there is a good chance that I will be in Montreal tuning pianos there. See you soon.

September 2nd, 2006
Big Mojo at The Rainbow this Sunday, just got a new synth. I will be in Brockville this comming Thursday (Sept. 7th), so if you live in Brockville or near that area and you would like tuning/repairs or whatever..let me know ASAP. Schedule is still pretty open for the next 2 weeks, please call soon to book you September tuning.

August 30th, 2006
Going to be doing a day in Brockville next week. Any customers needing piano work/tuning in Brockville please contact me ASAP to get your spot for that day. Brand new KX-21 has just been added to the showroom, check it out, anybody looking for a new instrument at a fantastic price needs to check that one out. Winkelmann and small apartment size piano (in my shop) will be for sale by the end of the week too...hopefully. I'm in the process of moving at the moment, and all this has a deadline, and so those instruments will likely go for insane deals.

August 23rd, 2006
Alright all you funky musicians, students, and piano teachers, time to get your piano's tuned again because. Remember, it's always best to call in advance since things can get pretty congested between September to December. Congrats to miss Catherine Lemay and her new Yamaha G3, of which I will be installing the latest greatest Dampp-Chaser system in it tomorrow morning. Site is running better now that I finally got the motivation to clean a whole junk load of stuff off my server.

July 20th, 2006
Very busy with all different kinds of stuff these days. Playing piano in a cover band now and we will begin performing late August so you should all come and see me play!! I am going to be playing guitar and vocals too. Not too much going on as far as pianos goes, however I think that will change come September.

July 10th, 2006
Back in the shop today working away on a small upright that should be ready for the end of the week. 2 tunings tomorrow, plus going to get started on installing the hammers for the Winkelmann, and continue on the small upright. Schedule is filling up again, thanks. Somebody coming to look at the Winkelmann on Friday posibly.

June 29th, 2006
I am taking a little time to myself to organise things. Although this business has been up and running for almost a year now, there is still so many things that are really unorganised. I am working on making all these databases right now so I can keep track of everybody and everything. I will start pushing the website again soon but I must take care of this stuff first. As far as tunings go, I did a few last weekend, one was for a show at Centerpointe Theatre, but other than that it has been pretty quiet. Hope it picks up soon!

June 19th, 2006
This is a very hard time for those of us in the tight knit Ottawa PTG chapter. Very few words can be said about the recent and unexpected passing of Dale Davidson, who is survived by his wife (expecting a baby), and daughter. I just want to take a moment to extend my support to the Davidson family, I hope to god you can pull through this! Events like this remind us of how delicate life really is.

June 7th, 2006
Hello!! Been a while huh? Sorry to everyone that I havent got back too yet ! Its for a good reason though...check out the Winkelmann in the showroom, finally for sale, and I didn't think I would really see the day, but it's there! Check it out, it's nothing short of spectacular. Have been doing a lot of work out in Brockville, Maitland, and Smith Falls. It's Summer!! TTYS.

May 12th, 2006
Hello again. Have now gone through about 3 cans of Bondo for the Winkelmann...and counting. Some of the panels are comming apart too so I had to fabricate steel re-inforcements that were routed into the panels. Tomorrow will finsih patch ups and repairs, finish repairing the soundboard, washing the pieces and body, and set up for sealing and shooting on Sunday. Monday will be action work whilst the laquer cures for the next 3 days, and while the rain subsides. Leave a message on my cell if you want service as I am in the shop everyday all day for the next...well untill the 27th I guess.

May 2nd, 2006

May 1st, 2006
Ok, well haven't updated the site in a while so here I am, will be more attentive in the future I promise. Just got back from MTL, getting some new clients down there. ANYBODY in Brockville that needs tuning please call ASAP as I need to schedule some time down there. Winklemann action rebuilding this week, today I get started on the keys, bushings, and tops. Going with satin fake ivories for this guy which will be hard but hopefully look good when done. Two new pianos added to showroom; absolutely stunning Heintzman baby grand and a Yamaha U1, check em out before their gone !! Met up with Don Pinards this last weekend to discuss business, possible move in the future comming. Strike Point shop will be relocating in September, where is yet to be anounced. Today is one tuning and then off to Don Pinards to pick up some stuff, and then back to Mr. Winklemann in the evening. Thanks talk to you soon!!

April 18, 2006
Well I managed to delete a couple of my current news entries by accident...oops! Oh well, it certainly has been quite the busy time for me and I have finally got around to updating the page again. Now that I am over the recent surge I will have more time to spend on the page and sales related stuff. If anyone out there has pianos they want to sell, please contact me, thanks. Got rid of all the stuff in the showroom that already sold, and added a new little Mason and Rich gem for. Winklemann refinishing all day today, tomorrow, Friday afternoon and into the evening, plus Saturday and Sunday, and some days next week also, good. Rebuilt Lion and Healy arrived back at Margaret Pages apartment. Rebuild went extremely well and I am happy with my new chain hoist, which was a huge aid in the project. Being able to lift and lower a 400lb cast iron plate in and out of a piano with such precision allows me to make very specific measurements; and it's also easier in the back ;) Anyone out there know of a really upholstering guy let me know, I have some benches in need of repair. Tonight is the tech meeting in munster and I will make sure to bring up the issue of tuning harpsichords and square grands, since I will be tuning a few of those soon. Soaring gas prices continue to kill us. Talk to ya'll later.

April 8th, 2006
Wow, lots of stuff going on...I'm exhausted!! So, word on the street is that the Winklemann will be making his first appearance on May 27th for the Alison Crowe show at arts court. Everyone is depending on me to come through with an awesome piano. A little heat under the butt never hurt anybody. Congratulations to Mr. And Mrs. Fitzgerald who purchased my lovely Kawai KX-21 today. Listening to their 6-year-old son tear up the keyboard gives me all the more reason to stick with my strength of being a piano TECHNICIAN and not a piano PLAYER; they were very happy. Sorry to all those I haven't got back to yet - mostly on Brockville - It is likely I will call you tomorrow to set up appointments, good. Ok, and Mrs. Pages Lion and Healy baby grand arrived at my shop today for a new pinblock and a full set of strings. I am also going to be having my upholstery guy redo the top of her bench, as it is a little uneven to sit on. I spent the day taking measurements and such to prepare for the job. Also had the piano hanging from my chain hoist for a bit, kinda interesting. Well see what we can do about her finish. Did a lot of tuning and service calls last week. This coming week I have booked myself totally in the shop with the exception of a few people that really want their pianos tuned before easter. Anyways, too much news to list, ill post again tomorrow. Later.

March 30th, 2006
Airfast seminar all day today, was awesome, learned many new tricks. Thank you so much to Martin from Chemcraft International for your time and attention to detail in your seminars. Thanks to Bob for the pizza !! Full rebuild project arriving next week at the Strike Point shop. Tomorrow is all day work on Winklemann, which needs to be ready very soon, since their is the possibility that Strike Point Piano Services will be sponsoring a series of Alison Crowe concerts at the end of May. This series is a fundraiser for the Ottawa Food Bank, and Canines with a Cause. Saturday morning I am leaving for a trip to Montreal to service my clients down there, will be stopping in Alexandria to tune a square grand. Monday, will be at Quincy's in the morning making plans for his square grand rebuilding project, that instrument is probably going to get a new soundboard, which is exciting. The instrument will be going into a museum in Halifax when it is finished. Tuesday I will be in Perth for what looks like only one apointment so far; please if you live anywhere near or on the way to Perth and you would like me to look at your piano, call me before Tuesday to schedule your appointment. Wednesday will be an all day affair in Brockville, 2 tuning in morning, and Fullford Academy piano repairs in the evening. Thursday I am booked untill the evening with a regulation job in Barrhaven, so I am free in the evening I guess, anybody want that just let me know. Friday (7th), Saturday (8th), and Sunday (9th) are all free currently, so if you want anytime there just let me know. Will be fairly busy in the shop too, since my down time is consisted of Winklemann rebuilding, not to mention piano comming in next week for rebuilding. Talk to you soon folks.

March 26th, 2006
Covered a touch up tuning for David Renaud this evening at the Casino de Lac Leamy for a Lawrence Welk concert, didnt actually get to touch the 9 foot Steinway since the band was too busy practicing. Mr. Renaud was in Kingston on a gig. More pianos being added to showroom this week, nice little Young Chang E-101 added tonight, which probabaly wont stay around for long. Kawai KX-21 has now arrived at my place and is ready for showing. Steinway K in showroom sold this week, congrats Alex !! Tomorrow morning tuning in Westboro and then n the shop continuing work on Winklemann. I plan on having all the peieces stripped, repaired, filled, and sanded this week, so I can be ready for finishing next week. Will be in MTL this coming weekend. Airfast finishing seminar all day Thursday. Will be in Perth the week of the 1st...anybody in that region need a tuning or anything let me know, cause ill be coming down shortly. Talk to you later.

March 21st, 2006
Spent the day stripping and sanding parts for Winklemann grand, coming along nicely. Also got some welding accessories today, clamps, gloves, magnets, etc. Anybody out there that needs anything tacked together just let me know, especially my technician buddies. Kawai KX-21 arriving at my house this Friday, will do a better slide show of it, also reducing price to $4900, great deal I might add. I will be in Brockville for tunings this Thursday, so if there is anybody around that area that wants their piano tuned let me know ASAP. Not sure if I will be at Quincy's working on square grand or in the Strike Point shop working on Winklemann tomorrow, well see. Talk to you soon.
