Here I am pitch raising the Knabe using my little IPAQ running a program called "Tune Lab". Tune Lab was originally developed for accurate measurement of jet engine RPM. It also works wonders full calculating overpull in piano strings. When I am done pitch raising this grand, there will be over 20 tones of tension working against the plate and frame. As one may expect, this is a crucial stage, and if not done properly, there is a risk of cracking the cast iron. This disaster is not unheard of, and once this happens, the piano becomes nothing more than a giant lump of metal and wood.
