Shop Tour Part 3

This is a little trick I learned from one of the best technicians in the city. So far, I only know of him and myself that do this extra little step. What I have done here is take a box of brand new tuning pins - which are all apparently equal in size - and measure them with the micrometer. It is amasing the variation in size that one may get in a box. I divide them into three categories, small, medium, and large. The small ones I put in the treble, medium in the tenor, and large in the bass. This makes the piano much more consistent to tune, and it disperses the tork to the areas of the piano that need it the most.
