Shop Tour Part 4

It's important to have good bits and precise metal cutting machinery since many piano tools are not manufactured, and must be home made. Here I am using a high quality metal bit to bore a hole down a hardened steel rod. In the end I will end up with a very simple tool called a "becket breaker". A becket breaker is used to free the strings from the pins in the process of removing the strings from a piano. This picture also shows my cooling goose neck that works in harmony with a water mist sprayer (mist hard to see in the picture) that keeps the bit and metal as cool as possible while boring.
